May: Seeking your feedback on waste legislation amendments through public consultation

FREE

We invite you to attend either of the two 60-minute webinars with the Ministry for the Environment, which will cover:

1.    An overview of proposals to amend the key legislation that regulates waste and litter in New Zealand: The Waste Minimisation Act 2008 and Litter Act 1979.

The legislative proposals cover five main areas:

  • creating a framework for extended producer responsibility
  • improving the levy system through changes to waste levy allocation, distribution and use
  • clarifying roles and responsibilities for central government, local government and the waste sector
  • creating a modern, effective compliance regime
  • enabling efficient and effective controls for littering and other types of mismanaged waste.

2.    The outline of proposals will be followed by a 10–15-minute Q&A session with Ministry for the Environment presenters.

Public consultation opens on Tuesday, 22 April and closes on Sunday, 1 June 2025. You can find out more and have your say at the Ministry for the Environment website.

Get in touch for more information.

Please email the team at wasteamendment@mfe.govt.nz if you have any questions about the waste legislative amendments. We look forward to your feedback.
