Illegal dumping is a growing problem in New Zealand and something all councils are dealing with.

Aside from the eyesore it presents affecting property and community value, it also poses significant problems for the environment, economy, and community wellbeing. Dumped waste can include hazardous items like sharp objects or asbestos making it dangerous for to the people tasked with its removal. It can also contribute to soil and water contamination, wildlife disruptions and increased fire risk. Removing illegally dumped waste and offender enforcement all costs money which falls on local councils and ratepayers.

Join us in this session to hear from three different councils on the actions they are taking to reduce, enforce and educate their local residents to combat this growing problem.

  • Trent Fowles - Waikato District Council
  • Morgan Harrison - Whanganui District Council
  • Angela Aitkens - Hastings District Council
