An opportunity has arisen for a Contract Supervisor to join our team, with responsibility for organics processing.

About the team - Ko te rōpū nei

The Resource Recovery team is responsible for developing, implementing and managing waste management and minimisation contracts and waste management projects across Christchurch and the Banks Peninsula. The role implements innovative contract and project management strategies to deliver best value for money while supporting Council policies and targets on resource recovery and waste minimisation.

About the role - Ko te mahi nei

The key focus of this role is to ensure our organic processing facilities are managed and maintained as efficiently and effectively as possible and the contracts are successfully managed to meet agreed LOS and KPIs as set out in the activity management plans.

This is achieved by:

  • maintaining effective relationships with our contractor and key stakeholders
  • managing contractor operations and maintenance obligations
  • providing technical advice to internal and external customers including the maintenance contractors
  • ensuring finances are well managed and that we are getting value for money
  • undertaking regular audits that address value for money, and quality and compliance issues.

About you - Ko Koe Tēnei

You will also have excellent organisational skills, be able to think logically and be confident in dealing with others. The ability to manage a constant and demanding workload is key while delivering the service in a cost-effective and safe manner. Your understanding of, and commitment to waste minimisation will ensure that you are delivering the best possible outcomes to the community.

You will also have:

  • a relevant qualification and national diploma in contract and asset management
  • a minimum of five years in the waste management industry
  • previous contract management experience, including auditing of contractors and site activities, and their respective records and equipment
  • a high level of computer literacy, particularly word and spreadsheet applications, and other software systems.

Hours of work - 37.5 - 40 hours per week
Position - Permanent
Location - This position is primarily based at Te Hononga, Christchurch City Council Civic Offices - 53 Hereford Street
Salary - The salary band for this position goes from $96,465 to $107,183 per annum based on a 40 hour week. Starting salaries will be based on knowledge, skills and experience the successful candidate brings to the role, and relativities both, within the immediate team and in the broader organisation for the same or similar roles
